Hattiers Devon Storm

A South West Favourite

Hattiers-RUM-LR-160.jpg

Put a West Country twist on the famous Dark and Stormy cocktail with this Hattiers recipe. Dating right back to the mid 1800's, when Bermuda's Gosling family first started experimenting with rum and British settlers were brewing beer from ginger in a bid to combat sea sickness, the Dark and Stormy is one of the world's best known cocktails.

Legend has it that the name came many years later, when a sailor observed how the colour of the cocktail resembled a cloud "only a fool or dead man would sail under". As Devon seafarers ourselves, we're more than familiar with those brooding, ominous clouds and so it seemed only fitting to create our own rum and ginger beer cocktail.

Rather than try to reinvent the wheel, we focused on improving the quality of the cocktail by teaming up with Luscombe Drinks, one of the finest producers of juices and mixers in the UK. By combining our Premium Reserve Rum with Luscombe's Ginger Beer and a splash of lime juice to enhance the flavours, the aptly named Devon Storm was born.

Making our rum and ginger beer cocktail couldn't be easier, but don't be fooled by it's simplicity. This is one drink that always goes down a storm.

When almost two thirds of your cocktail is the mixer, it's essential to choose well. We tried and tested a huge range of mixers before settling on Luscombe mixers thanks to their small batches, minimal processing, refusal to compromise on quality and addition of zero additives.

That means each bottle of  Luscombe Ginger Beer brings nothing but flavour and warmth to our Devon Storm cocktail.
