What are the Great British Food Awards?
The Great British Food Awards launched in 2014 to celebrate the country's finest artisanal produce, as well as the hard-working people behind the scenes. This year, the awards are bigger and better than ever, with lots of new categories judged by some of the world's most recognisable and respected judges. From dairy to cheese, artisan drinks to savoury preserves, The Great British Food Awards has a category for everyone and shines a spotlight on Britain's most outstanding producers.
Every year, fresh new faces are added to the judging panel, each wielding a hefty influence in the realm of British food and drink. Imagine being able to say the likes of Raymond Blanc, Michel Roux Jr or Shaun Rankin chose your product as the best cheese, gin or pie in all of Britain? The Great British Food Awards gives brands the opportunity to have their food and drink tasted and judged by some of the UK's most acclaimed chefs, critics and influencers.
Last year we were thrilled that Hattiers Egremont, Eminence and Resolute were not only shortlisted as finalists but that Eminence took first place as Britain's best rum as judged by Merser Gin and Hayman's Rum founder Miranda Hayman.
Judge's Feedback: "Lovely fresh bright tropical notes from the Jamaican rum on the nose, hints of vegetal and light sugarcane flavours. It was smooth and balanced on the palate with a long finish. There were hints of sweetness and buttery notes, as well as natural sweet tropical fruit coming through. This was my winner as it felt very versatile due to its smoothness and balance and depth of flavours. I think it would work very well in a cocktail such as a daiquiri, or other rum cocktails."
This year as reigning champions, our founder Philip Everett-Lyons has been invited to select the successor to Eminence in the Rum category and also the best Flavoured Rum in Britain.
